about
Runner up in The Climates Songwriting Competition, this song was initially inspired by “the dark satanic mills” in William Blake’s Jerusalem poem and is centred around the current fossil fuel issue which once drove the “great” industrial revolution, but has now gone too far and is greatly contributing to climate change by putting too much carbon dioxide in the air.
It also looks at how the factory workers were forced to live soulless lives as over-worked “cogs” in the machine (aka The Man) to increase productivity and profit for the owners; a theme that goes on to this day.
It’s a call to rise up and reclaim our divine right to be free and independent and know that our soul is the most important treasure, otherwise we take up all sorts of self-destructive pursuits to supplement it.

lyrics
In darkest lands, where shadows dwell,
Lie Satan’s chimneys, a fiery hell
Where dreams are consumed, and innocence is lost,
Where evil thrives, at unimaginable cost.
In these infernal halls, where demons toil,
The devil corrupts with his thick black oil
The air is dense with the stench of despair,
As The Machine churns, with deafening blare
Chorus
But let us rise up against the devil's might,
We’ll banish his existence with glorious light
After the darkest hour there is always a dawn,
And satan's chimneys will one day be gone!
Factories rise for the dirtiest cash,
Raging forest fires reduced to ash.
Working for the man, just cogs in a wheel,
Bound by red tape and a cunning deal
Rivers run black and the skies turn to grey
As the devils continues his relentless way
Snorting nostrils billowing smoke
We try to breathe but can only choke
Chorus
But let us rise up against the devil's might,
We’ll banish his existence with glorious light
After the darkest hour there is always a dawn,
And satan's chimneys will one day be gone!
Bridge
His grip on humanity may seem strong,
But the power of love can never be wrong.
Together we can rise, against the forces of despair,
To reclaim our world, and banish Satan to his lair
